Harman P68 combustion fan not clearing smoke out of stove?

  • Hi I have a Harman P68 stove about 6 years old. I love this thing but lately I've come home to smell a little smoke in my house. I run the stove in automatic mode and clean it regularly. Typically the pellet stove will run to the desired temperature and then shut itself off, leaving the combustion/ exhaust fan on to clear out any smoke left in the stove. When the stove is off (all fans shut down) and I smell a little smoke, I opened the door to find the stove with smoke inside. I'm guessing the sensor that tells the combustion fan to stay on or go off isn't working properly. On test mode all the fans come on and everything appears fine when the stove is burning pellets. This does not happen every time the stove shuts off and there are no status lights showing. Could this be the ESP probe or a control board or something else? I did clean the ESP probe about a month ago and do so at least once per season. In six years I have only had to replace the door gaskets and an igniter once. I don't mind buying the part, but would rather just buy what I need. Is there a way to test or check to see if this is an ESP probe issue or something else? Thank you in advance for any helpful information.

  • It sounds like a bad ESP probe or Circuit Board. I would replace the ESP probe first to see if that fixes it.

  • The exhaust fan on my Harmon Absolute 43 continually gets dirty where it produces noise, and has even locked up. Why am I getting such a heavy build up? Not running hot enough ? Feed rate to high ? Or am I not getting enough air to the burn pot ?

  • The bearings on the exhaust blower may be wearing out. Make sure the stove and venting is very clean.
The feed rate should be set to 4
You can also check the auto damper to make sure it swings freely.
